Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers can be used as a safe and natural way of filling out deep lines on the face that occur as we age. They can be used to help restore a smoother and more youthful appearance with immediate effect giving long lasting results.

To allow for maximum comfort during treatment a topical anaesthetic is applied to the treatment area. All of the fillers we use contain local anaesthetic to make the procedures as comfortable as possible.  Local Anaesthetic injections can also be given to fully numb the site should this be required.

If required individual tubes of Topical anaesthetic cream can be purchased from us for home application prior to your appointment to further maximise comfort during the procedures.

The sites we can treat with dermal fillers are:

The lips

Lip augmentation uses Hyaluronic Acid fillers to define the lips, restoring shape and volume. This is a quick and relatively painless process which enables both subtle improvements to be made to the structure of the lips or for the production of a more obvious result with the adding of more volume to the lips.

Following on from advance training with Dr Bob Khanna, Dr Melissa Smith is able to offer his signature ‘Heart Lips’. This look is created using various techniques using cannulas which results in minimal swelling and bruising with no down time so you are able to enjoy your new lips from day one!

All of our procedures are performed with your desired results in mind following a free consultation with Dr Melissa Smith.

Treatment of the lips can last between 6-9 months with some products lasting up to 1 year.

Nasolabial Folds

These lines are more commonly known as ‘smile lines’ and are the lines that are found between the nose and the corners of the mouth. As we age these become more apparent and dermal fillers can be used to restore volume in this area creating a more youthful appearance. The Nasolabial Fold area is most commonly treated in conjunction with the marionette lines. The cheeks can also be treated in conjunction with the nasolabial folds as one of the biggest causes of visible nasolabial folds is a loss of mid-face volume which naturally occurs as we age. Restoring this can not only enhance the cheek bones but reduce the appearance of the nasolabial folds meaning less product is then required to treat this site.

Treatment results of the Nasolabial folds can last between 6-9 months.

Marionette Lines

These lines are fond at the corner of the mouth and can contribute to giving an ‘upside down smile’. Many clients complain that they look sad at rest. These lines are often a big contributing factor to this appearance.

As with Nasolabial folds, these lines become more prominent with ageing due to an increase in the skins laxity and the natural loss of facial volume. Dermal fillers can be used to plump out these lines making them less prominent.

Anti- wrinkle injections can also be used in combination to reduce these lines. We have a strong muscle in our faces the Depressor anguli oris which is responsible for the downward pull at the corners of our lips. Treating this muscle with botox is an advanced technique and can help to reduce the downward pull of this muscle. Used in conjunction with fillers this can soften the lines and produce beautiful, natural results.

Treatment results for the marionette lines can last between 6-9 months.

Smokers lines

These are the vertical lines that appear above the top lip and sometimes below the bottom lip. They are most prominent in smokers but can also develop in individuals who do not smoke due to the action of the lip muscles. A combination of botox and filler can be used to soften these lines making them less obvious. A technique of needle and cannula can be used for this treatment site with results lasting 6-9months.

Cheeks

Our cheeks are one of the first areas to lose plumpness as we age, not only do we lose our natural fatty tissues in the mid face region but we also undergo skeletal changes resulting in a loss of structural support in this region. This leads to a gaunt looking appearance which can often age us. Dermal Fillers can be the perfect treatment to re-introduce lost volume and to sculpt the cheekbones. Whether it is a subtle or more radical look that is desired a combination of needle and cannula techniques can be used to reintroduce volume in these sites creating a more youthful looking appearance. Cheek fillers can also create a lifting effect reducing the appearance of the nasolabial folds, reducing the need for treatment in this site. Topical Numbing cream is used prior to treatment resulting in minimal discomfort and no down time.

Treatment of the cheeks can last between 12-18 months

Tear Troughs

This is the area below the eye which can become hollow producing darker under eye circles. As we age the tear trough area can become more apparent due to structural changes in the face from skeletal remodelling and the loss of natural fatty tissue in this site. These changes lead to a ‘tired’ appearance. Filler in this site can plump out the hollowness to produce a fresher looking appearance. Results in this area can last between 9-12 months and treatment can be performed over 1-2 visits to achieve the desired result.

For best results with this site we recommend our clients wear SPF 50 to protect the delicate under eye skin as sun damage can exacerbate the under-eye darkness reducing the effects of the filler.

Chins

Our underlying bony structure can lead to some having a deficient or ‘weak chin’. Filler can be placed in this site to even out the facial proportions and add shape to this site. Filler in this site can be used to masculinise the male face and feminise the female face. Filling the chin can have a beneficial effect on the jawline by tightening the skin allowing natural definition of the jaw line.

Treatment of the chin can last between 9-12 months.

Jawlines

Dermal Filler can be placed with the use of both a needle and cannula to sharpen and define the jawline. Results can be subtle or more drastic depending on how you would like your jawline to be sculpted and can help to thin the face and neck region.
