Gum Health and Maintenance
At Blyth Family Dental Practice oral hygiene is at the heart of every procedure we perform: we want all our patients to have strong, healthy teeth and gums.
Gum health, in particular, is important because it is now well known that gum disease not only causes tooth loss but also more wide-ranging and serious health problems: over a long period, bacteria from chronic gum disease can enter the bloodstream and affect the organs of your body, especially the heart. We also want to help you to avoid the need for more invasive procedures such as fillings, crowns and root canal surgery and we believe that the best way to do this is through regular check-ups combined with dental hygiene maintenance.
Healthy gums do not bleed, if you notice blood when you brush your teeth you should consult your dentist. Bleeding from the gums can be indicative of many things; the most likely cause being gingivitis, an inflammation of the superficial gum tissue, which can be easily solved with simple cleaning techniques. However, it could be a sign of something more serious like Periodontitis (Gum Disease).
